Modernizing the Security Industry!

Kia Ora,

When are you modernizing an industry by not modernizing it?

When you are dealing with the New Zealand government which is looking for the Licensing Authority & Deputy Licensing Authority oversee the updated act in regards to the security industry.

The advertisement for the postions states "The Private Security Personnel & Private Investigators Act 2010 modernises the regulation of the private security & private investigation industry..".

Maybe in their little world it does, but in reality, though some of the submissions have been taken notice off it actually takes the industry back 40 years to time of original bill & worse.

As I read through the new act in greater detail I will raise the issues that arise.

Right from the start the first thing that I see wrong is the advertised positions need to be a solicitor or barrister of the high court. Actually no they don't. What is needed if we are serious of modernizing the industry is someone who actually understands the industry & who will put the case for improvements forward as they arise.

If as expected terrorists do target the Rugby World cup the last thing you need is a lawyer who will want to go back through long arduous processes or bureaucratic corruption.

What is needed is people who understand the industry & can make decisive & quick decisions otherwise the situation will move far too quickly for those in the positions to comprehend. On the ground it will be moving even faster.
Principles of Information Security
True it is mainly an administration role, but even there staff take care of most of that. From a security perspective the people overseeing the industry though need to understand the stresses, the issues & the people you deal with & make up the industry.

A solicitor or barrister will never see people in the same way security meet those they deal with.
